scrying
Divination through reflection
Scrying is the practice of gazing into a reflective or translucent surface—a crystal ball, mirror, pool of water, or flame—to perceive visions or gain supernatural insight.
Associated with fortune-telling and divination, scrying appears throughout folklore and fantasy: The witch scryed into her obsidian mirror.
The practice assumes the surface serves as a window to hidden knowledge or distant events.
