Merlin

Legendary British enchanter

Merlin is the wizard of Arthurian legend, advisor and protector to King Arthur.

He appears throughout medieval romance as a figure of prophecy and magical power, often credited with engineering Arthur's conception and establishing the Round Table.

The name has become shorthand for any wise counselor or magical figure: He's the Merlin of the operation, pulling strings behind the scenes. (Lowercase merlin is a small falcon.)
