archmage

Master of magic

An archmage is the highest-ranking or most powerful mage in a magical hierarchy—a master wizard who commands exceptional skill and authority.

The term appears almost exclusively in fantasy fiction and games: The archmage summoned the council to discuss the threat.

Like archbishop or archduke, the prefix arch- signals supremacy within a class.
