cantrip

Small magical trick

A cantrip is a minor spell or magical trick, especially one requiring no significant expenditure of power.

The word comes from Scots, where it originally meant a charm or incantation.

In tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons, cantrips are the simplest spells a caster can perform, often usable without limit: She cast a cantrip to light the torch.
