sibyl

Ancient world prophetess

A sibyl is a woman believed to have prophetic powers, especially one of the oracular priestesses of ancient Greece and Rome who delivered divine messages.

The word now applies to any female prophet or fortune-teller: The old sibyl read her palm and foretold disaster.

It can be used figuratively for any woman who seems to possess uncanny insight or foresight. (Capitalized Sibyl is a given name.)
