invocation
Calling higher powers
An invocation is a calling upon something for assistance or authority—a deity, a muse, a principle: The poem opens with an invocation to the gods.
Legal or formal contexts invoke rights or precedents: an invocation of the Fifth Amendment.
In computing, an invocation is a call to execute a function or program.
The opening prayer at a ceremony is also called an invocation.
