muggle
Uninitiated regular person
A muggle is someone outside a particular group or subculture who lacks specialized knowledge.
The word originated in the Harry Potter books, where it means a person without magical powers.
From there it spread to other communities—geocachers use it for non-players who might stumble upon a cache, and various hobbyist groups apply it to outsiders: We had to wait for the muggles to leave before we could search for the geocache.
The tone ranges from affectionate to mildly dismissive. (Capitalized Muggle appears in Harry Potter contexts.)
