log
Trunk section cut
A log is a section of tree trunk or thick branch, especially one cut for fuel or timber: We stacked logs by the fireplace.
By extension, log describes any detailed record kept over time—a ship's log, a flight log, a work log.
To log is to record systematically or to accumulate: She logged two hundred hours of flight time.
To log in or log on is to authenticate access to a computer system; log out or log off reverses it.
To sleep like a log is to sleep deeply and immovably.
