woodpile

Stacked firewood collection

A woodpile is a stack of firewood or cut logs, typically stored outdoors for later use: He split logs and added them to the woodpile.

The term appears in the expression a nigger in the woodpile, an offensive phrase for a hidden problem or secret—something concealed that will eventually cause trouble.
