veneer
Superficial wood layer
Veneer is a thin layer of fine wood glued over cheaper material to give furniture an attractive surface.
By extension, veneer is any superficial covering that conceals what's underneath, especially an appealing exterior hiding something less pleasant: a veneer of politeness, beneath his confident veneer.
To veneer is to apply such a layer.
