hardwood
Oak or maple
Hardwood is wood from broad-leaved deciduous trees like oak, maple, and walnut—as opposed to softwood from conifers.
The term is somewhat misleading since it refers to the tree type rather than actual hardness; balsa is technically a hardwood despite being extremely soft.
Hardwood is prized for furniture, flooring, and cabinetry: The kitchen has beautiful hardwood floors.
