larboard
Ship's left side
Larboard is an old nautical term for the left side of a ship when facing the bow—what is now called port.
The word fell out of use because it sounded too similar to starboard, especially when shouted over wind and waves.
By the mid-nineteenth century, port had replaced it in official maritime terminology.
