ketch

Twin-masted sailing craft

A ketch is a two-masted sailing vessel where the rear mast (the mizzen) is shorter than the main mast and positioned forward of the rudder post.

This distinguishes it from a yawl, where the mizzen sits aft of the rudder.

Ketches were common working boats and remain popular among cruising sailors for their versatile sail configurations.
