institution
Enduring formal structure
An institution is an established organization or practice, especially one serving a public purpose: financial institutions, the institution of marriage.
Universities, hospitals, and governments are institutions.
The word can suggest permanence and authority, sometimes critically—institutional implies impersonal or rigid.
A person or thing that has become a fixture may be called an institution: He's an institution around here.
Institution also names the act of instituting something: the institution of new policies.
