faculty

Innate mental capacity

Faculty has two main clusters of meaning.

One refers to an inherent ability or power: the faculty of speech, mental faculties, the faculty of reason.

The other refers to the teaching staff of a school or university, or a division within one: the faculty voted to change the curriculum, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

A person might join the faculty or attend a faculty meeting.
