norm
Accepted group behavior
A norm is a standard or pattern, especially of social behavior—what's considered typical or expected within a group: Tipping twenty percent has become the norm.
In mathematics, a norm is a function that assigns a positive length to vectors.
To violate norms is to behave outside accepted boundaries: Gender norms are shifting.
The word often appears in plural: social norms, cultural norms, community norms. (Capitalized Norm is a given name.)
