bureau
Administrative agency division
A bureau is a chest of drawers, typically for storing clothes, or a writing desk with drawers.
The word extends to offices and agencies that handle administrative work: the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Census Bureau, a travel bureau.
In government contexts, bureau often suggests a subdivision within a larger department: She works for the bureau that handles immigration cases.
