drilling rig
Petroleum extraction structure
A drilling rig is the equipment used to bore holes into the earth, typically for extracting oil, natural gas, or water.
The term covers everything from the derrick tower to the machinery that drives the drill bit.
Rigs range from small portable units to massive offshore platforms: They're moving a drilling rig into the Gulf.
