land survey
Measuring terrain boundaries
A land survey is the process of measuring and mapping a piece of property to establish its boundaries, area, and features.
Surveyors use specialized instruments to determine precise locations and create legal descriptions of land.
Survey results appear on documents called plats or survey maps: We ordered a land survey before buying the property.
The term also refers to the resulting document itself.
