natural gas
Underground fossil fuel
Natural gas is a fossil fuel composed mainly of methane, extracted from underground deposits and used for heating, cooking, and electricity generation.
It burns cleaner than coal or oil but still produces carbon emissions.
The house runs on natural gas.
In everyday speech, often shortened to just gas: Does the stove use gas or electric?
