coring

Extracting the middle

Coring is the act of removing the central part of something.

Most often this means extracting the seeds and fibrous center from fruit: After coring the apples, slice them thin.

In geology and engineering, coring means drilling to extract a cylindrical sample from earth, ice, or other material for analysis: The team spent weeks coring the glacier.
