drillship

Seagoing drilling platform

A drillship is a maritime vessel equipped with drilling apparatus for exploratory oil and gas wells in deep water.

Unlike fixed platforms, drillships can move between sites and operate in remote oceanic locations.

They maintain position using dynamic positioning systems or anchors while drilling through an opening in the hull called a moon pool.
