camera rig
Cinematographer's mounting system
A camera rig is any apparatus that holds or moves a camera beyond what a tripod provides.
Rigs range from simple shoulder mounts and stabilizers to elaborate crane and dolly systems.
In filmmaking, the rig determines what shots are possible: We built a custom rig to get the overhead tracking shot.
The term also applies to multi-camera setups used for 3D filming or virtual reality capture.
