upstream
Toward the source
Upstream means in the direction from which a river or stream flows—against the current: We paddled upstream for hours.
The opposite is downstream.
In technical and business contexts, upstream refers to earlier stages in a process or supply chain: upstream suppliers, upstream production.
In computing, upstream changes flow back to the original source code repository.
