accumulator
Stores successive additions
An accumulator is something that gathers and stores.
In computing, it's a register that holds intermediate results during calculations.
In betting, especially British, an accumulator is a wager where winnings from each selection roll forward to the next—if all picks win, the payout multiplies; if any loses, everything is lost: I had a five-horse accumulator going until the last race.
In machinery, an accumulator stores hydraulic fluid or electrical charge for later release.
