deepwater
Far from shore
Deepwater describes water of significant depth, typically in marine contexts where the ocean floor lies far below the surface.
It appears most often as a modifier: deepwater drilling, deepwater ports, deepwater fish.
Deepwater operations require specialized equipment designed to handle extreme pressures and distances.
The term sometimes appears as two words: deep water, especially in the figurative sense of serious trouble: He found himself in deep water after the audit.
