chow mein

Takeout noodle dish

Chow mein is a Chinese-American dish of stir-fried noodles with vegetables and meat or seafood.

The name comes from Cantonese words meaning "fried noodles." Restaurants distinguish between crispy chow mein (served over crunchy fried noodles) and soft chow mein (with tender noodles mixed in): I'll have the chicken chow mein.
