Forbidden City's home
Beijing is the capital of China, the country's political and cultural center.
The name means "northern capital" in Mandarin, distinguishing it from Nanjing ("southern capital").
Formerly romanized as Peking, that spelling persists in some established terms: Peking duck, Pekingese.
The talks will resume in Beijing next month.
