Spin

Partisan framing technique

Spin is rotation around an axis.

A top spins, wheels spin, the Earth spins.

To spin is to make something rotate, or to rotate yourself: She spun around to face him.

Spin extends to producing thread by twisting fibers, which yields the metaphor of spinning a tale—drawing out a narrative.

In politics and public relations, spin is the art of presenting facts in a favorable light: The campaign put a positive spin on the poll numbers.

A spin doctor manages such messaging.

To spin off is to create something new from an existing thing: a television spinoff, a corporate spin-off.

To spin out is to lose control, as a car on ice.

Take it for a spin means test-drive something.
