turn

Pivot on axis

The core meaning of the verb turn involves motion, either around an axis (the world turns), or in a way that results in a change of direction (turn left at the next intersection).

However, many phrasal verbs in which turn appears may not involve motion, such as turn up, turn down, or turn out.

The noun turn most commonly represents an alternation between two or more people sharing an activity, as in the phrase take turns.

Turn also represents an instance of turning in any of its senses.
