Messaging is the activity of sending and receiving messages, especially through digital platforms like texting, email, or apps designed for the purpose.
The term encompasses both the technology and the practice: I prefer messaging to phone calls.
In business and politics, messaging also refers to the strategic crafting of communications to convey a particular image or idea: The campaign needs to work on its messaging about healthcare.
