angular momentum

Rotational motion measure

Angular momentum is the rotational equivalent of linear momentum—a measure of how much rotational motion an object has and how hard it would be to stop that rotation.

It depends on mass, speed of rotation, and distance from the axis.

Conservation of angular momentum explains why a spinning figure skater speeds up when pulling in their arms: The skater's angular momentum stays constant, so reducing the radius increases rotation speed.
