Wool is the soft, curly fiber that grows as the coat of sheep and some other animals.
Sheared and processed, it becomes yarn and fabric prized for warmth and durability: a wool sweater, pure virgin wool.
The texture extends to similar materials: steel wool for scrubbing, cotton wool for padding.
To pull the wool over someone's eyes is to deceive them—as if blocking their vision with a woolly blindfold.
