bias

Tilt toward one

Meanings that have grown out of the earliest use of bias now far outnumber its original noun use: to denote a line or cut in fabric that is diagonal to the weave.

Today bias, whether as noun or verb, is used primarily as a near synonym of prejudice to talk about representations that are false or skewed because of people’s views, or because of incorrect use of data or statistics: The judge was thought to have a liberal bias. The exclusion of this data seriously biased the results.

The participle biased is often used as an adjective: biased findings.
