Neoclassicism

Greco-Roman artistic return

Neoclassicism typically refers to the artistic and intellectual movement of the mid-18th to early 19th centuries, inspired by archaeological discoveries at Pompeii and Herculaneum.

It shaped everything from Jefferson's Monticello to David's paintings to Pope's poetry, favoring reason, proportion, and classical ideals over ornament and emotion. (Lowercase neoclassicism is the general style or any such revival.)
