ode

Poem of exaltation

An ode is a lyric poem, typically one that praises or celebrates its subject.

The classical form follows elaborate structures with stanzas and meter, but modern odes are often freer in form while retaining the tone of elevated address: Keats's "Ode to a Nightingale".

Informally, any tribute or enthusiastic appreciation may be called an ode: His essay was an ode to New York pizza.
