National Assembly
Country's lawmaking chamber
The National Assembly is the name of the lower or sole legislative chamber in numerous countries, most notably France, where the term originated during the Revolution of 1789.
In French politics, it refers specifically to the 577-member body that forms the more powerful half of Parliament: The National Assembly passed the controversial pension reform.
The name appears in the official titles of legislatures across Africa, Asia, and elsewhere. (Lowercase national assembly is the generic term for such bodies.)
