Reichstag

Berlin's historic parliament

The Reichstag is the German parliament building in Berlin, constructed in the late 19th century.

The word also refers to the legislative assembly itself, both historically and in modern Germany.

The 1933 Reichstag fire, which destroyed the building, gave the Nazi regime a pretext for seizing emergency powers: The Reichstag fire marked the end of German democracy.
