House of Lords
British upper chamber
The House of Lords is the upper chamber of the British Parliament, composed of life peers, hereditary peers, and bishops rather than elected members.
It reviews legislation passed by the House of Commons and can propose amendments or delay bills.
The House of Lords rejected the government's proposed changes.
Despite its aristocratic origins, its powers have been substantially reduced since the early twentieth century.
