minority
The outnumbered group
Minority refers to the smaller part of a group—less than half: A minority of voters supported the measure.
In social contexts, a minority is a group distinguished by race, ethnicity, religion, or other characteristics that differs from the dominant population: racial minorities, religious minorities.
The term implies both smaller numbers and often reduced social power.
Minority also describes the state of being under legal age: He inherited the estate during his minority.
