Kepler

Orbit equation discoverer

Kepler refers to Johannes Kepler (1571–1630), the German astronomer who discovered that planets orbit the sun in ellipses rather than circles.

His three laws of planetary motion laid groundwork for Newton's theory of gravity.

The name attaches to things honoring him: the Kepler space telescope, which discovered thousands of exoplanets, and Kepler crater on the moon.
