rays
Emanations from sun
Rays are beams of light or other energy extending outward from a source: rays of sunlight, ultraviolet rays, X-rays.
The word extends to anything radiating from a center—the lines on a child's drawing of the sun, or the spokes of geometric patterns.
Rays are also flat-bodied fish with wide, winglike fins, related to sharks: stingrays, manta rays.
In baseball slang, rays sometimes abbreviates the Tampa Bay Rays. (Capitalized Rays refers to the baseball team.)
