density
How tightly packed
Density is how tightly packed something is—the amount of mass or substance in a given space or volume.
In physics, it's calculated as mass divided by volume: lead has high density, styrofoam has low density.
The term extends to population density (people per square mile) and to abstract uses: the density of ideas in the lecture was overwhelming.
Dense can also suggest thickness or impenetrability, and informally, stupidity: He's too dense to get the joke.
