Copernicus
Sun-centered solar system
Copernicus refers to Nicolaus Copernicus, the sixteenth-century Polish astronomer who proposed that Earth and other planets revolve around the sun rather than the reverse.
His heliocentric model overthrew centuries of geocentric thinking and launched the scientific revolution.
The name appears in scientific contexts: the Copernican principle holds that Earth occupies no special position in the universe.
