Tycho Brahe

Pre-telescope stargazer

Tycho Brahe was a Danish astronomer of the late sixteenth century whose meticulous observations of planetary motion—made before the telescope—provided the data Johannes Kepler later used to derive his laws of planetary orbits.

Brahe famously lost part of his nose in a duel and wore a prosthetic.

His name appears in astronomy discussions and as a byword for obsessive precision in measurement.
