Molten metal refuse
Slag is theite waste material that separates from metals during smelting—rocky residue that floats to the top of molten ore and is skimmed off.
By extension, slag can describe any waste or refuse.
In British slang, slag is a derogatory term for a promiscuous woman, or more broadly an insult meaning a worthless person.
To slag someone off is to criticize or insult them harshly: The tabloids slagged off the new policy.
