Assyrians

Ancient Tigris civilization

Assyrians are members of an ethnic group indigenous to Mesopotamia, historically centered in what is now northern Iraq, southeastern Turkey, and northeastern Syria.

They trace their heritage to the ancient Assyrian Empire and are among the earliest peoples to adopt Christianity.

Modern Assyrians maintain a distinct identity, language (Neo-Aramaic), and cultural traditions despite centuries of displacement and persecution: The Assyrian community has preserved its language through diaspora.
