white rhino
Square-lipped grazer
The white rhino is the larger of two African rhinoceros species, distinguished by its wide, square-lipped mouth adapted for grazing.
The name comes from a mistranslation of the Dutch word for "wide," not from its color—white rhinos are gray like black rhinos.
Once nearly extinct, conservation efforts have brought their numbers back, though they remain threatened by poaching for their horns.
