poaching
Simmering in liquid
Poaching is hunting or fishing illegally—taking game from protected land, out of season, or without a license.
The term extends to taking what belongs to others: poaching employees from a competitor, poaching customers, poaching someone's romantic partner.
Separately, poaching is a cooking method where food simmers gently in liquid just below boiling: poached eggs, poached salmon.
