translocation

Movement between locations

Translocation is movement from one place to another, used almost exclusively in technical contexts.

In genetics, a translocation is the transfer of a chromosome segment to a different position, often causing disease.

In botany, translocation is the movement of water and nutrients through a plant's vascular system.

In conservation biology, it means relocating animals to establish new populations: The wolves were translocated to Yellowstone.
